Autograph letter signed : [n.p., Paris, n.d., February or March 1861], to M. [Alphonse] Royer, [n.d., 1861 Feb. or Mar.].

Asking him to tell his excellency the minister that it is not true that Wagner threw a snuff-box at Morelli's head, that on the contrary he took the most appropriate measures to lead that singer to a very good performance of the role of Wolfram [in Tannhäuser], asking him also to tell the minister that Wagner has earned full and cordial understanding with all the competent opera conductors and that with the one absolutely incompetent conductor [i.e. Dietsch] he has shown long-suffering indulgence, so that if he now asks for a change in conductors it is only to avoid the delays and hardships ("fatigues") that could be fatal to the performance of his work, etc.
